Report From HQ

It’s been a while since we gave everyone an update so we want to take the chance to fill you in on what we’ve been working on.  Here’s a little update separated into convenient sections:

Survival Mode

Adding full bot support for Dino D-Day was a big step towards shipping a survival mode for the game.  With that settled we’ve started on a survival mode in earnest.  Currently, it’s in a “prototype” stage as all of the major features are plugged in and playtested.  It’s still rough and can go in a lot of directions but we have the basic features implemented.  These include:  wave spawning and wave controls (this will evolve into our own version of the ‘AI Director’ concept), upgrade system and menu, new bot AI for new dinosaurs that aren’t in the game yet.

We have no concrete plans for release of the survival mode yet so you’ll have to be patient with us as we chip away at it.  It’s almost certain that at some point we’ll set up a Beta that everyone that owns Dino D-Day can participate in to weigh in on what they like and don’t like about survival mode.  We’ll try and get this going as early as possible so you can have a voice in how survival mode is designed instead of just reporting bugs.  Again, there is no set timetable for that so you’ll have to bear with us.  When survival mode looks a little better we’ll try and get some screenshots or gameplay footage up so you can check it out.

New Content

We plan on releasing new official maps for Dino D-Day before the end of the year.  It’s been a while since we added any but we hope to rectify that soon.  We will definitely ship new maps before survival mode.  New maps should be coming in the next few months.

We would still like to add more dinosaurs and more weapons but those are more complex and at this stage we have to be careful where we allocate our resources.  Most of our effort is directed towards survival mode as we feel that is our best opportunity to draw more players to Dino D-Day.  You can count on having new dinosaurs when survival mode ships.

Other Stuff

There are some other cool things going on with Dino D-Day behind the scenes that we can’t talk about quite yet but we hope to very soon.  Stay tuned!

Thanks to everyone for playing the game, it’s been almost a year-and-a-half since we shipped Dino D-Day and some might wonder why we’re still at it and haven’t moved on to a new project.  Well, the answer is we feel like Dino D-Day still has a lot of untapped potential and as long as there are people interested in playing it we’ll keep trying to bring it to a broader audience.  More important than that though, we’re having fun!
